Stop Rehearsing Your Troubles

While reading the devotional Jesus Calling by Sarah Young, I was totally inspired by this statement:

  • Rehearsing your troubles results in experiencing them many times, whereas you are meant to go through them only when they occur.

Often times we tend to worry about situations minutes, hours, days, or even weeks before they occur … yet it’s futile to multiply our suffering in this way!

After all, can anyone by worrying add a single hour to their life (Matthew 6:27)? Aren’t we constantly scrambling for that 25th hour?

I can testify that worrying has not made me a single day younger, otherwise I would have discovered the fountain of youth.

So why do we constantly rehearse our troubles, leading to unnecessary worry and stress?

      • Yes, totally. Courage to live each day as if it were the last needs a serious amount of energy and faith in the voices of our hearts. And that’s the only option as our time is limited. Thank you for your thoughts.

  2. So true! Worry is ridiculous, and most of what we worry about never even happens. Reminds me of this quote from Mark Twain: “I am an old man and have known a great many troubles, but most of them never happened.”

  3. I think it’s human nature to rehearse our struggles. It’s hard to let go of control or of our desire to feel in control, even though we know we are not. Trust is not an easy thing. That’s why God had to remind us of it, and why we need to remind ourselves every day…
